Gender Representation in Secondary and High School EFL Coursebooks

This study investigates representation of male and female characters in the reading texts English language coursebooks Turkish secondary high school context. In order to examine gender texts, Hallidayan transitivity analysis was used; were analysed investigate as agents assignment experiential processes these characters. The findings show that students move up their formal education become more advanced lengthier, number increase radically. addition, most common two used are found be predominantly male, while remaining three identified distributed between evenly. However, it is also there still a general trend assign agency lengthier later years overall. have implications for teachers well coursebook writers.
